Our Services

Unlock the full potential Bell Munro Consulting provides civil and structural engineering design, surveys and temporary works support. We work with developers, architects, contractors and building owners, from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction.

If you are not sure what you need yet, send us a brief and we will tell you what information is required and the quickest way to get to a solution.

Structural Engineering Design

Our structural engineering services cover new build, refurbishment, extensions and change of use projects. We work collaboratively with developers, architects and contractors, shaping practical structural solutions from early feasibility through to detailed design and construction, with buildability and cost in mind.

We resolve key structural decisions early, so the scheme is straightforward to coordinate with the wider design, understand and price, and more likely to deliver clear tender returns and a predictable build on site.

Our service spans early advice and outline schemes through to detailed calculations and tender and construction drawings, details and schedules. We design steel and reinforced concrete frames, including podium decks, transfer structures, basements and retaining structures where required, as well as traditional masonry and timber schemes. We work closely with geotechnical partners on complex sites and develop pragmatic foundation solutions, including piled foundations, pad and strip foundations, rafts and piled rafts where appropriate.

Civil Engineering Design

Bell Munro Consulting provides civil engineering design services to help schemes move through planning and onto site efficiently. We produce drainage strategy reports, Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), SuDS design and calculations, attenuation storage design, detailed drainage designs, external works layouts, site level plans and construction build-ups.

We support projects through adoption and technical approvals, including Section 38 and Section 278 highway agreements and Section 104 drainage adoptions.

We also support discharge of drainage-related planning conditions, coordinating with the LLFA and statutory consultees where required, and we work with utilities and the wider design team to resolve outfalls, levels, storage and buildability early. Vehicle tracking and swept path checks can also be provided where required.

Specialist Surveys

We provide structural surveys and engineering advice for existing and ageing buildings, including occupied assets, historic buildings, and sensitive conservation and restoration projects. We work with facilities management companies, managing agents, building owners and estates teams who need quick, clear, practical advice they can act on.

Our engineers undertake structural condition surveys and defect assessments for schools, hospitals, car parks, residential and commercial buildings and historic structures. Typical issues include cracking and movement, water ingress, deterioration of reinforced concrete (including RAAC surveys and assessments), vehicle impact damage, and concerns raised during maintenance or refurbishment works.

We will set out what we’ve found, how serious it is, and what to do next, with prioritised recommendations and practical options for maintenance planning, capital works, or insurance discussions.

Digital Delivery and BIM

We’re flexible in how we issue and manage information, whether via email and PDF transmittals, through our own portal, or within the client’s CDE or preferred portal. We follow agreed naming, status, revision and transmittal conventions, including ISO 19650 where required, with clear version control and an audit trail so the team is always working from the right information.

We work directly in Revit and produce and exchange RVT and IFC models to support BIM coordination. We can also work from point cloud surveys. We hold Cyber Essentials, we take information security seriously.

We use industry leading structural, civil and drainage design software including Tekla and MicroDrainage. These tools support our work, but engineering judgement and buildability come first.

Temporary Works Design

On constrained sites and complex refurbishments, temporary works is often what makes the scheme buildable and is inseparable from the permanent structural solution. We bring temporary stability, sequencing and access into the conversation early, so the risks are understood and allowances can be made from the outset.

We can provide both temporary works strategy and detailed temporary works design, including piling mats and working platforms, crane bases and outrigger checks, hoardings, façade retention support, propping schemes, temporary stability measures, and temporary support for structural alterations and openings.

Where a separate temporary works designer is appointed, we still help define the concepts, loads, constraints and interfaces early, so it can be properly scoped, priced and programmed at tender stage, not discovered during the works.

Value Engineering and Bid Support

We offer targeted civil and structural engineering reviews for projects at tender stage or earlier, whether costs have come back higher than expected or a contractor needs to strengthen a competitive bid. We are happy to work alongside an existing design team to identify cost savings and buildability improvements, often with a relatively small piece of work compared to the potential benefit.

We typically look at frame type, foundations, basements, transfer structures, sequencing and temporary works, which are often where cost and complexity sit. You’ll receive clear alternatives and straightforward guidance that you, the design team or the contractor can use.

We also support joint bids with architects, M&E engineers and contractors, providing the structural input needed for submissions and helping strengthen the overall return.
